Obituary for A.B.C. Strange ("Cookie")

Mrs. Adeline Bassett Cook Strange, age 86, of Foulk Manor North, formerly of Centreville, died on Saturday, August 14, 2004. Cookie was born in Baltimore, MD on October 14, 1917, daughter of the late Adeline Bassett Cook and the Right Reverend Philip Cook, former bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware. She taught at the Tatnall School from 1939 to 1942. Besides her devotion to her family, she donated her time, energy and considerable talents to a variety of charitable endeavors throughout her life. Cookie was instrumental in the early years of the Pilot School in Talleyville and served for many years as a member of their board. She was active in the organization of The Green Show, Hagley Associates, and the annual Point-to-Point races at Winterthur. Cookie also served as a researcher for Alfred Chandler's book, "Pierre S. duPont and the Making of the Modern Corporation." She was member of Christ Church, Christiana Hundred and its Altar Guild. Cookie was well known for her lively spirit and her ability to entertain and light up a room with her storytelling.

Cookie was preceded in death by a son, E. Bruton Strange IV. She is survived by her former husband Theodore Booth Strange, MD; 4 sons: Philip C. Strange of Viewtown, VA; Theodore B. Strange, Jr. of Louisville, KY; Peter S. Strange of Millville; and John B. Strange of Wilmington; a brother, John S. Cook of Falmouth, MA; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at Christ Church, Christiana Hundred, Buck Road, Greenville.
